Bicycle trailer compared to TAGA bike-pushchair.

TAGA bicycle pram comparison trailer.

TAGA bicycle pram comparison trailer.

We have already dealt with this topic in another article on the comparison between the bicycle trailer, the bicycle seat and the TAGA, but we are returning to it because of a comment on another recently published article. The article was dedicated to the TAGA Calessino, one of TAGA's two models to carry two children. If you want to read the article, click here.

It is a safe and fun way to carry two children on a bicycle, the children are in front of the parent and are positioned so that they can interact with each other as well as look around. The TAGA is lightweight, with specially designed aerodynamics to optimise effort, which allows you to carry two even quite large children (TAGA Calessino can carry children from 12 months up to 7-10 years) effortlessly. And if you need a little help, especially on hilly routes, you have the TAGA engine, a truly ingenious invention! For more information follow this link.

As an alternative to the TAGA Calessino for carrying two, there is also the TAGA Double Seat model where children sit one in front of the other, always facing the parent. Discover the difference between the two models.

In the commentary, the author boasted about the bike trailer, which could be detached and thus also become a pushchair. Without in any way doubting the qualities of the trailer, we would like to explain the differences with the TAGA bike-stroller in a handy comparison table.

TAGA bicycle trolley VS bicycle pram

Bike trolley

Bike - pram TAGA

Children's position

At the bottom, you cannot see or interact with them or even know how they are or if they need anything. Children see very little. In front of you neither too low nor too high, but right in your arms, protected, and cuddled. You can interact, share the experience, they are comfortable and have excellent visibility.

Comfort for the little ones

The children are quite cramped in there, they see very little due to both the structure of the trolley and the position on the ground. The child/children are as comfortable as Pashas in their upholstered tilting armchair. They see everything and communicate their needs to you. You can have the food on hand and pass it to them at any time.

Size and length

There are no standard sizes due to the large number of models, but they can be up to and even exceed 3 metres in length, including the bicycle (standard bicycle sizes are 1.8 m to 2.0 m). Width 73 cm x height 102 cm x length 165 cm. TAGA is less cumbersome than some bicycles, as the handlebar width of the latter varies from 68 to 78 cm, passes everywhere where a normal bicycle passes, and in pram mode enters all standard doors, including public transport.

Handling

Riding a bicycle with a trailer is by no means easy. Watch out for people carrying a trailer when they have to turn or, even worse, cross a road. In addition, the driver needs well-developed triceps. Stable and light, it is easy to drive. Read also the article on the particularities of riding a tricycle.
You can choose any speed, even at walking pace. You are free to stop and start again at any time. TAGA's aerodynamics have been optimised to carry more and feel less!

Design

Trolleys like standard bicycles were not initially designed to carry children, but were adopted later for such needs. TAGA was specially developed to give children and parents maximum safety, convenience and comfort. Find out more!

Load capacity

On average about 30 kg (varying from 20 to 40). In any case, the total weight of the trailer with the passenger(s) must not exceed 80 kg by law and safety regulations. Boom capacity of up to 60 kg. Capacity varies depending on model from 25 to 45 kg with the overload margin of more than 30%!

Security (there's just no comparison!)

As it is safer than the classic child seat (at least if done well it does not tip over when the bike falls over) and legal to carry two children on a bike (find out more!) it cannot compete in any way with TAGA.
If you have nevertheless opted for this solution, here is what you should pay attention to:The tow bar must have a double fastening system

Better if the hook is attached to the rear axle because the risk of tipping is lower.

Harness belts attached to the frame offer better protection.
To prevent children from putting their fingers in the wheel spokes, the trolley must be equipped with a side cover or wheel fairing.
Equipped with a roll-bar  which provides stable protection in the event of a tip-over.
An approximately two-metre pole with pennant makes the trolley more visible.
The actual weight of the trolley (trolley plus children) must not exceed 80 kg

At the heart of the TAGA project was child safety! The project was developed by a group of Dutch engineers, experts in the field, among others being parent-cyclists themselves, not satisfied with the lack of safety, they were personally motivated.TAGA's strengths are many, here are the most important ones:Position of the seat between your arms and the handlebars, it is the safest position there is, the child is further protected by reinforced handlebars;

Three-wheel structureand, 2 fronts give a bicycle and seat stability, which does not overturn.

Specially developed seataluminium frame, 5-point harness attached to frame, reinforced footrest, headrest;

The very robust central tube.

European homologation and various other countries (it is sold worldwide) both as a baby bike and as a pushchair into which it converts.

Practicality (there's just no comparison!)

Some models allow you to detach the trailer and use it as a buggy. You still have to park the bike. Bicycle? Pram? With the TAGA you have two in one: a very comfortable bicycle that converts into a pram in 4 easy and elegant moves (it takes less than 20 sec) with the child not having to get out of the seat.Lightweight and easy to ride, enters all standard ports (80 cm) and can be transported on public transport. In storage mode occupies only 70 cm on the ground.

Transport by car

You can transport the trailer in the car, and carry the bicycle with the bike rack Folds up like a pushchair and fits in the boot, can also be transported with bike racks

Space required for storage

Needs a garage or place at the entrance at least for a bicycle It can be kept in a flat, you can go out in TAGA directly from your home in pram mode, find out how!
It can be placed vertically and occupies only 70 cm of floor space.
