Bring 2 children on a bike, what is the best way?
We have already addressed the topic of the various ways of carrying 2 children on a bike, to go further you can click here.
This article, on the other hand, is dedicated to the choice between the TAG DOUBLE SEAT and the TAG CALESSINO.
Families with two or more children often ask us for advice on which one they prefer, undecided between the two beautiful and very comfortable models.
Both models have their own advantages, which make the choice quite difficult.
Let us try to give you some guidelines to help you in your choice.
Let's start with the’age of children, in TAGA DOUBLE SEAT children can go from 6 months of age, while in TAGA CHILD SEAT children must be able to sit up, and therefore the recommended age is from 12 months. The maximum age up to which children can go in TAGA for the DOUBLE SEAT is 4 years, the youngest child and around 6-7 years for the oldest child. While in CALESSINO the maximum age of children can also be 10-11 years.
Approval to carry 2 childrenBoth models are approved for Italian (European) roads in bicycle mode.
Pram modeBoth models convert into a pushchair, however the transformation of the TAGA DOUBLE SEAT is more linear and streamlined than that of the TAGA CALESSINO. What's more, the latter is not approved as a classic pushchair due to its geometric shapes.
ConvenienceThe DOUBLE SEAT is made up of two comfortable, ergonomic and padded seats. The seat can be tilted slightly in bike mode and more so in pram mode, allowing children to relax during a nap. Although the TAGA CALESSINO is always more comfortable than a car seat, trailer or any other cargo bike, it does not have a specific nap mode.
Rain/shield protectionTAGA CALESSINO has 3 modes: convertible, with the sun canopy, with full wind/rain protection. TAGA DOUBLE SEAT has the sun canopy for the front seat included and the possibility of completely covering the first child with the rain/rain cover. The second child is already protected by the first child seat from the front wind, for sun and rain it requires a pram umbrella.
VisibilityIn DOUBLE SEAT TAGA, the child sitting in the first seat has better visibility than the child in the second seat, the issue could be resolved by having the children change the seat, in rotation. TAGA CALESSINO, both children have the same visibility, the smaller one looks forwards while the older one looks backwards.
Entertainment: The fun at TAGA is unquestionable, TAGA CALESSINO also offers children the chance to interact with each other along the way.
CONCLUSION: The choice between the two models should be based primarily on the age of the children, and the daily need to convert the TAGA into a pram.
Since the models are interchangeable with each other, thanks to the use of a single frame, you can also start with the DOUBLE CHILD CHAIR for younger children and, if you wish, switch later to the CHAIR (purchased separately).
